Appliances of tolerance

This week was a big one for us. Having purchased three homes in my lifetime and making due with the hand-me-down appliances that came with each (although the first house - a 1927 Craftsman Bungalow - came with a Barbie pink Wedgewood built-in with integrated griddle and double rotisserie that ROCKED), we finally broke down (and I mean that literally - I pulled a flaming nutty about the cheesy refrigerator we had) and purchased a brand new stove and refrigerator.

We selected the Sears Kenmore Elite brand - the Trio french door-style refrigerator and a 36"five-burner gas range. Both in stainless steel. They are HOT.

Little did I know how perfect they actually were for our open-minded and unbiased home.

See, I was reviewing the owner's manual for the stove and thinking impure thoughts about the plumber - who was running the water line for the icemaker - when I discovered that our stove possesses - get ready for this...

...a Sabbath Feature.

Dude. No shit.

How cool is that? Apparently, you can preset the oven to run quietly and unobtrusively at a set temperature during the Sabbath or Jewish holiday of your choosing.

Now - we're not Jewish, but man - if I was - I'd be pleased as hell that someone thought of this.

On another level, perhaps the best part of this for me is imagining the consternation and confusion it would cause nearly every member of my white Protestant Midwestern family upon reading about this feature.

Personally, I think it totally rocks.

Now - how do I set the cooktop for Kwanza?

Whooo!
