Dear Wine Diary

Oh my heavens - I'm getting sneak preview of Summer and I LOVE it.

Okay - it's 80 + degrees here today - probably 85 -  and it feels like Summer - but it's only April 7!

To celebrate the heat and the Summer sultriness of it all, I decided to uncork a Parallel 45 Rose.

DEE - LISH -US!

Okay - for those of you who appreciate the subtle nuances of wine, this is a great middle of the range rose that is dry, flavorful and easy to drink.

For those that may not be as confident in their palate - I challenge you to buy a bottle, save it for a very warm day, and then sip it front of a window fan (as I am doing today).

You will feel transported as the essence of strawberries washes over you in the breeze - every breath you take with your nose over the wine is like laying face-first in a strawberry patch.

Yet - when you take a sip - you'll be very surprised at the restrained but bold taste of the wine - it's like it wants to be jelly-jammy, but it knows it's better than that - and it gives you a bright flowery taste that dissipates beautifully on your tongue.

I ADORE a great Rose in the summer and this is one I can highly recommend.  However, if you are fortunate enough to be in or traveling through the area, I encourage you to try our local winery's take on a rose.  Last year, they blew away the French and Spanish roses we had come to rely on - truly!  at a New York winery!

At El Paso Winery, our good friend Meryl blends wines in the Italian style. She comes from a family of wine makers and delivers some extraordinary blends.

This is not the typical New York wine your parents knew - either stringent and dry to death - or so sweet your brain would fall out.  Merle delivers a comprehensive selection of dry to semi-dry to semi-sweet to sweet Italian wines, based on her customers demands.

If you are coming to New York, make El Paso a destination.  If you are coming to visit us, then no worries - we always have cases of Meryl's wine around.  The rest of you can sod off and drink your cheap ass plonk.

Happy Spring!

Dupree... I wonder... is Rose like White Zinfandel or Blush wine?

PJ. For shame - I know you are just starting trouble.

You might as well ask if my diamond encrusted mantilla was available at WalMart.

Shame. You know your name.

I was hoping for a more inflammatory response. Anywho... I figured I would ask the question others might be too afraid to ask... :-)

"Most people don't know WalMart got nice jewelery."
